Each person is unique and, therefore, also their way of learning. Knowing individual characteristics, weaknesses and strengths is a great help for teachers, counselors and clinical professionals to adapt the environment and apply specific guidelines that optimize learning
The task is a Continuous Performance Test -CPT- played via virtual reality glasses and headphones where the instructions are received. As indicated, the assessed subject must respond to different stimuli by pressing a button.
The evaluator visualizes on their computer screen, in real time, the same thing that the subject can see via the glasses. Motor activity during the test is registered by motion sensors in the glasses.
The scenario is similar to a school class and the perspective places the subject at a desk looking towards the blackboard. Head movements are captured by the glasses and the software updates the scene accordingly, giving the real feeling of being in class (by moving your head you can see the different parts of the classroom just like in a real class). A teacher explains the instructions of the tasks and the classmates “behave” in a realistic and dynamic way. The subject has to perform the task that is presented on the board (visually) or that the teacher explains (auditive). Regarding ecological validity, a series of usual school classroom distractors have been introduced.: a car passes by the street, a companion calls the subject, the concierge knocks on the door of the classroom, etc.
The results of normative studies of convergent and factorial validity show that Nesplora Aula School and Nesplora Aula are the most sensitive, precise and specific tests for the detection of ADHD in children with high internal consistency. This test has an excellent power of diagnosis and discrimination without ceiling or floor effect, high predictive value and reliability while having a high convergent validity with the Face Test, the CPT Conners, the EDAH, the DSM criteria and the d2.
Nesplora Aula School provides specific pedagogical guidelines based on key aspects collected during the evaluation. On the one hand, it provides orientations according to the general scores obtained and, on the other hand, it provides personalized strategies according to whether the performance of the subject was better in more stimulating or more monotonous tasks, whether it was better when the information was presented in a visual or auditory way, or if, depending on performance, it improves or worsens in calm or stimulated environments. These strategies adapted to the attentional profile are of help for all the people involved in the child’s learning process.
Nesplora Aula School shows us how each student attends according to different conditions: distractions, sensory modality and type of task. Thus, we can know if their performance improves in the presence or absence of distractions from the environment, with visual or auditory material and, finally, in stimulating tasks or repetitive tasks. All this information is very relevant to be able to apply study techniques adapted to the characteristics of the students.
After a first evaluation, we can apply the psycho-pedagogical guidelines recommended in the report itself and / or start an intervention to work on some points of improvement. Through the Nesplora Aula School test, and according to studies conducted, we can track the person to compare if there have been improvements in the attentional profile and movement.
The special educational needs not only occur when a child has greater difficulties than the rest of their classmates but also when a child has a greater intellectual capacity than the rest of their classmates. On the other hand, the union of ADHD and high capabilities is not uncommon.
Each person has their own strengths and areas for improvement, that should be known and reinforced to obtain better results and progress in an appropriate manner. Working the aspects of improvement of each person gives them new enriching faculties for the learning process and allows them to work more efficiently.
Children who stand out as “different”, either because they have special needs or attentional problems, can become an easy target to suffer discrimination or isolation, even reaching school bullying situations. Thanks to the information provided by Nesplora Aula School, coexistence, values and social skills can be worked in class. Students can become aware of diversity, normalizing and integrating what makes them unique.
