Physical exercise is not only limited to the development of physical qualities through specific motor actions, but can also influence socialization, decision making, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, and other cognitive areas of the body in various ways human being. The objective of this research was to analyze the effects of physical exercise on inhibitory control and selective attention in active students of the Florencio del Castillo University, Cartago, Costa Rica, during the first semester of 2022. A study was carried out quasi-experimental, with three groups of university students, a control group and two experimental groups, one group based its treatment on multicomponent exercises, while the other experimental group performed exercises with cognitive stimuli, a pre-test was applied to the three groups (pre-test) and a post-test to assess the inhibitory control and selective attention of the participants. Significant effects of the measurements (F=6.534; sig. 0.004) were found on the average of Words (P), in the Colors test (C) (F=6.673; sig. 0.004) and in the Word test – Color (PC) (F=5.885; sig. 0.006), of the groups of university students who were subjected to exercise. It is concluded that exercise with cognitive stimuli has positive effects on inhibitory control and selective attention, while multicomponent physical exercise shows effects on selective attention.
