Stimulation of Executive Brain Functions in mini basketball processes. Systematic review

Abstrac:

The Prefrontal Cortex of the brain is functionally linked to the Executive Brain Functions (EBF) and sports such as basketball have important characteristics for neural stimulation. The aim of this review was to collect scientific evidence of how mini basketball enhances EBF for life and sports performance. Databases (EBSCOhost, SpringerLink, SPORTDiscus, Apunts Physical Education and Sports magazine and open access databases) were used to search a total of 90 scientific articles. A total of 12 articles followed the inclusion criteria. It is concluded that mini basketball is an empowering tool that allows the consolidation of neurological networks between the limbic system, the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex, observing the maximum participation of the prefrontal cortex in Inhibitory Control, Working Memory and Cognitive Flexibility, taking advantage of the playful component of mini Basketball to strengthen the EBF.
